A standout at Santo Tomas in the UAAP, Richard didn't get the kind of reception a player of his talent expected to receive in the pro ranks, partly because injuries saddled him towards the end of his amateur career.
He did land at Purefoods in his rookie year. And although he didn't exactly made heads turn, he played well enough for Purefoods to groom him as Alvin Patrimonio's back-up - and, who knows, maybe an heir apparent.
